The way to be happy with yourself is simple. You have to show yourself that you can give yourself what you want.

If you can’t give yourself what you want, then you’re not going to feel satisfied with your life. Simple. The interesting question isn’t the ‘What?’, it’s the ‘How to…’

How to be happy with yourself in 3 simple steps


1. Work out what you actually want

 

This step can seem difficult but it’s actually far simpler than it sounds. Here’s why:

The reason that most people struggle working out what they want is they try and come up with a list of objects, actions, or outcomes that they desire. The problem is that these aren’t your core desires, they’re pathways to your core desires. You want these things for a reason – to experience something.

Experiences are the end point.

All these objects, actions, or outcome are a means to that endpoint.

So, to work out what you really want, ask yourself this question: how do I want to feel?

What do I want to experience?

Then you’ll have the real answer you need to move forward and be happy with yourself.

 

2. Work out how you would need to live your life to experience that

 

Now that you know what you’re looking for, it’s time to look at how to get it.

There are two ways you can experience any sensation – you can wait for someone else to give it to you or you can make it happen yourself.

Seeing as making someone else give it to you is a very frustrating and painful way to live your life, we’re going to look at the other option.

So, how would you need to live your life in order to experience the happiness you desire.

Is your happiness based on having lots of friends around? Great! Then how would you need to live your life to have lots of friends around you?

Would you need to sit at home, waiting for people to call you or would you need to get out and meet new people?

Is you happiness based on overcoming challenges? Great! Then how would you need to live your life to overcome challenges all the time?

Would you need to hide away new opportunities or would you need to put yourself out there and test yourself?

How would you need to live your life to experience the happiness you desire?

 

3. Work out what’s preventing you from living your life in that manner

 

It might seem like there’s a lot of barriers that are preventing you from living the life you desire, but I have some good news. There’s not. There’s only one.
