If you focus on outcome focused goals to improve your self esteem then your self esteem is forever going to be at the mercy of the external environment. Why? Because you can never guarantee a specific outcome.

You can’t guarantee you’re going to win the race / get the promotion / get the girl. There are external factors at play that fall out of your sphere of influence. If achieving these goals falls outside your control, so does your self-esteem.

You can’t guarantee that you’re going to win the race but you can guarantee that you try to execute a technique. And even if you fail to do so, you can always see why and work to improve it. The actions you take are in your control and as will be your self-esteem.
